Here are some helpful hints to keep your gardens looking gorgeous.

Early Spring - March and April


April 22 is Earth Day

Celebrate the Earth and get your hands dirty! Come in to the nursery and get everything you need to get your garden growing. We have the greenest of thumbs in town and our nursery staff is eager to help you in any way that we can.


April 29th is Arbor Day
Plant a tree and you efforts will be enjoyed for generations to come. Add beauty to your world and improve the quality of your life and conserve the environment! You can achieve all this by planting a single tree.

Nusery - Early Spring
  • Remove winter protection from all plant material.
  • Inspect plants for winter damage.
  • Prune roses back to healthy swollen buds.


Lawn Care - Early Spring
  • Give the lawn a vigorous rake.
  • Fertilize lawn with a spring feeder.
  • Time to apply crabgrass preventer to your lawns.
  • Clean up and fertilize your garden beds.


Annuals - Early Spring
  • Don't forget your Easter lilies.


Time to Plant - Early Spring
  • Any trees and shrubs.
  • Early winter pansies.
  • Bare root roses and perennials.
  • Re-pot any house plants that have outgrown their containers.


Spring - May and June

Nursery - Spring
  • Fertilize rhododendrons and Azaleas before and after blooming.
  • Give your hedges and yews a light shear.
  • It's Fathers Day! A fruit tree and a pair of new pruners.
  • Take outside any over wintered plants after danger of frost.


Lawn Care - Spring
  • Time to fertilize the lawn and apply a grub control and weed killer if necessary.
  • Time to replace landscape and mulch.
  • Time to prepare new planting beds.


Annuals - Spring
  • Watch out for late frosts on tender plants. Either place them in the garage or cover them with an old sheet.
  • Come in and check out all our new plant introductions, as well as our tried and true favorites.
  • Mother's Day is May 11th! A hanging basket, or a rose bush?


Time to Plant - Spring

  • Summer flowering bulbs.
  • Replace any winter-killed plants.
  • Strawberries
  • Perennials
  • Prepare vegetable garden for spring planting.
  • Fill containers and garden beds with flowering annuals.


Summer - July and August

Nusery - Summer
  • Time to sit back and smell the roses.
  • Prune back your spring blooming shrubs.
  • All trees and shrubs can be planted all summer long.
  • Independence Day - plant a patriotic rose.


Lawn Care - Summer
  • Water your lawn deeply, at least once a week if the weather is dry.
  • Raise the height on your mower.
  • Time to apply summer feed for your lawn.


Annuals - Summer
  • Dead-head all flowering annuals and fertilize regularly.
  • Enjoy the fruits of your labor - harvest, eat fresh, or can all your fruits and vegetables.
  • Plant some of our super-sized annuals to fill in the bare spots.

Fall - September and October

Nusery - Fall
  • All nusery stock can be planted during the fall, as long as the ground is soft enough to dig.


Lawn Care - Fall
  • Apply lawn fertilizer with or without weed control in the early fall. Apply to a wet or dry lawn on a calm day. This will enrich your soil and your grass will turn a rich dark green.

  • Mow in the fall until the weather gets cold. If the fall climate is wet and cool, lower the height of your blade.

  • Rake all leaves before snowfall.

  • Great time to plant a new lawn.


Annuals - Fall
  • Time to lift out spent summer flowering bulbs.

  • Fall is the time to come in and get the best selection of flowering bulbs for your spring color display. Plant your bulbs in groups of twelve or more for a great blooming bouquet of color. Spring flowering bulbs include daffodils, crocus, tulips and hyacinths. Remember to plant pointy side up and then sit back and wait for the snow to melt!

    Perennial - Fall
    • Come in and get your fall flowering hardy mums and asters.


    Time to Plant - Fall
    • Bring any non-winter hardy plants indoors before a hard frost.


Late Fall - November and December

Nursery - Late Fall
  • Finish any last minute mulching.
  • Protect any sensitive plants for winter.
  • Time to clean and put away your tools for winter.


Annuals - Late Fall
  • Take a poinsettia or Christmas Cactus to a friend!


Cookie-Cutter Trees
  • Come in and pick out the best Christmas tree ever! Grown and cut fresh on our local tree farm.
